The Montgomery Advertiser was preparing to publish a hefty investigation into the city’s growing gun-violence problem. The series title keyed on something one of the sources termed a “tsunami of violence.” The editor wanted three illustrations for three consecutive Sunday 1As that would tie the series together and give the stories a a head-turning, impactful look and feel for what had been a fairly traditional newspaper. My goal was to provide illustrations that were impactful but also a bit disturbing, as the subject matter seemed to call for it. All three illustrations were created in Photoshop.
