In 2015, I kept seeing my colleagues doing all this creative and interesting work in their spare time — photography, knitting, videography, nonprofit volunteering, drawing, etc. — and I wanted to know more about all the great things people were doing outside of work. So I set up a Side Hustle Showcase where our team members could tell their co-workers all about their off-the-clock passions.
Thus the Side Hustle Showcase was born. We’ve had two rounds of the SHS now, and each time I am totally taken aback by how talented and generous studio employees are. I get great feedback from colleagues who feel like they get to know their co-workers in a more meaningful way once they’ve gotten a glimpse into what makes them tick outside work.
